Like many young men from Blowing Point Village, Captain Lyle Connor grew up on the sea. Even with his love for boats, he initially had dreams of becoming an airline pilot and even started studying to get his pilot’s license.
As fate would have it, his dad needed help with the family business - a ferry boat service to St. Martin. After spending the next two decades learning his craft working on ferries and charter boats, he wanted to chart his own course.
Anguilla Ferry Charter Services was launched in the winter tourist season of 2009, with a leased vessel. The company's focus was on providing top quality service, comfort and giving guests value for their money.
The boat lease didn't work out, which left the young charter company in urgent need of a boat. Lyle initially wanted to build a new boat from scratch but the 5-month waiting period was too long.
He found a fishing boat that was for sale, negotiated a great deal and, within a month had it refurbished, refitted and launched. Taking this as a sign of “God’s Blessing”, GB Express was born.
With GB Express launched, the new company led the way in ushering in some of the many advancements we have seen in the operation of the ferry shuttle between Anguilla and St. Maarten/Princess Julianna Terminal.
After 5 years of growth and learning, the company was re-branded in 2014 to GB Ferries. GB Express was refurbished, again, and a second boat - GB Dream - was added to the fleet.
The new vessel came fitted with a comfortable, air-conditioned cabin, wi-fi connectivity. Every detail, from charging ports for mobile devices, to the thickness of the seat cushions carefully selected underscoring the commitment to service and comfort.
